The restoration and adaptation of this house, completed in 1889 by Casa Loma architect E.J Lennox, served the purpose of dignified housing to those in need. In converting the mansion from a single-family residence to a 25-room shelter for senior women, AXIA navigated a process fraught with resistance, but also propelled by support.
Heritage elements throughout the house were preserved and enhanced by a refreshed material palette. The rooms themselves, each with private ensuite, engage the mansion’s interior elements to create environments that are homely and familiar.
