The aviation industry is a growing sector for the City of Nantong. With the upcoming high-speed rail network and the construction of the new Nantong International airport, it will play a fundamental role in the management of flight traffic in the region.  With growing demand for business air travel, Apexair is planning to develop its campus to accommodate its business jet services. This first project in this multi-phased construction is the ApexAir FBO, a business jet passenger terminal. Taking inspiration from the wings of the airplane, this aerodynamic terminal building marks a new chapter in Nantong’s aviation industry.

The notion of flight is pivotal in the choreography of the user experience. Using advanced digital modelling tools from design to fabrication, a ‘wave’ element of a dynamic and transformative surface, serves as a visual guiding element throughout the building. From the covered vehicular drop-off to the curvilinear form of the lobby reception, to the backdrop of the passenger hall, one is transported into a series of emergent circulatory vortexes implied by the aerodynamic form.
